Jewellery Care

All Jewellery by Vanya items are created using gold or silver plate with many of the charms being vintage raw brass.

What does ‘plated’ mean?
Plated metal is when a base metal (usually copper, brass or steel) has a thin layer of gold or silver applied to it by electrochemical means. Without boring you with the science part this means that it can eventually tarnish over time. To keep your pieces looking newer for longer, store in a clear zip bag or the box provided, please don’t spray perfume on your jewellery, sleep in it or get it wet. Rings are a little more susceptible to this so take extra care of those beauties.

Some of the vintage charms have marks and spots from age, which is just the way I love them. If they get too old for your liking, a bit of brasso works wonders. This will get rid of any marks and polish up the charms so they are all shiny.

Does your jewellery contain nickel?
The plated elements (such as chain and findings) have been deemed nickel safe, which means that they have a very low content and falls in with EEC regulations restricting the amount of nickel in jewellery.

My ears are sensitive to nickel; does this mean I can’t I wear your earrings?
It’s ok, my ears are sensitive too so I always use sterling silver or gold-filled earwires which are a lot nicer to your ears so you will have no problems at all wearing your Jewellery by Vanya earrings.
